چکیده
A Note on Parametric and Nonparametric Regression in the Presence of Endogenous Control Variables This note argues that nonparametric regression not only relaxes functional form assumptions vis-a-vis parametric regression, but that it also permits endogenous control variables. To control for selection bias or to make an exclusion restriction in instrumental variables regression valid, additional control variables are often added to a regression. If any of these control variables is endogenous, OLS or 2SLS would be inconsistent and would require further instrumental variables. Nonparametric approaches are still consistent, though. A few examples are examined and it is found that the asymptotic bias of OLS can indeed be very large. JEL Classification: C13, C14

A Comparison of Thin Plate and Spherical Splines with Multiple Regression
Thin plate and spherical splines are nonparametric methods suitable for spatial data analysis. Thin plate splines acquire efficient practical and high precision solutions in spatial interpolations. Two components in the model fitting is considered: spatial deviations of data and the model roughness. On the other hand, in parametric regression, the relationship between explanatory and response v...
متن کاملParametric and Nonparametric Regression with Missing X’s—A Review
This paper gives a detailed overview of the problem of missing data in parametric and nonparametric regression. Theoretical basics, properties as well as simulation results may help the reader to get familiar with the common problem of incomplete data sets. Of course, not all occurences can be discussed so this paper could be seen as an introduction to missing data within regression analysis an...

In many industrial processes, quality of a process can be characterized as a nonlinear relation between a response variable and explanatory variables. In several articles, use of nonlinear regression is suggested for monitoring nonlinear profiles. Such regression has two disadvantages. First the distribution of the regression coefficients cannot be specified for small samples and second with in...
متن کاملInvestigating the Factors Affecting Energy Consumption in the Iranian Agricultural Sector Using Parametric and Nonparametric Methods
Abstract In order to study energy consumption in Iran's agricultural sector, a Genetic algorithm concept was used to calculate significant factors affecting energy consumption between 1974 and 2008. Then, durability or "stability" of variables was assessed through econometric method (Augmented Dickey-Fuller test). In addition, long-term and short-term relationships of energy consumption were es...
متن کاملTHE COMPARISON OF TWO METHOD NONPARAMETRIC APPROACH ON SMALL AREA ESTIMATION (CASE: APPROACH WITH KERNEL METHODS AND LOCAL POLYNOMIAL REGRESSION)
Small Area estimation is a technique used to estimate parameters of subpopulations with small sample sizes. Small area estimation is needed in obtaining information on a small area, such as sub-district or village. Generally, in some cases, small area estimation uses parametric modeling. But in fact, a lot of models have no linear relationship between the small area average and the covariat...
